If you think that substance abuse isn’t a community problem, consider these Mecklenburg County facts:
* Each year, 100 to 150 infants are born with a fetal alcohol disorder.
* In 2009, 1,983 drivers were convicted of driving while impaired.
* An estimated 172,000 people have a substance abuse problem, but only 1 in 4 seek help.
* The average age that an adolescent first uses marijuana is 13.7 years old.
* Roughly 70 percent of persons arrested test positive for some drug.

Substance abuse affects everyone in our community, including people who have never consumed alcohol or used drugs illegally. The fact is that those who have no history of substance abuse suffer from the actions of people with active, untreated addictions.

Anuvia is a solution for the Mecklenburg County community, and its history dates back to 1958. Anuvia’s staff and services are continually recognized by the state of North Carolina for excellence. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is an affiliate of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.

Our agency delivers programming that is tailored to the needs of businesses, families, the court system and government agencies. Its adolescent prevention programs are widely used by area educators, and Anuvia is home to one of the few Latino services divisions in the region. Anuvia is committed to serving anyone who is seeking help with alcohol or drugs, as well as those who have substance abuse problems and a mental health illness.

Anuvia envisions a community where the negative impact of substance abuse is significantly reduced or eliminated because its members – regardless of age, race, religion, education or social status - can recognize substance abuse problems, know where to turn for help and have full access to the highest quality of services.

Major funding provided by the Mecklenburg County ABC Board.
